19-Mar-13 - Lots to see and do at the 2013 Grimsby Farmers' Market

We have a fabulous season planned with lots of fun filled evenings to make your market experience even more of a social event.  We kick off with a pre-season market during the month of May at the St. George's Ukrainian Church at the corner of Adelaid and Ontario Streets, then move to Main Street on May 30.  Our market will feature over 30 local vendors with an expanded selection of home grown fruits and vegetables, including organic products, artisan breads, lots of yummy baked goods, cheese, meats, flower and vegetable plants, cut flowers, potted plants, honey, maple syrup and so much more.

But this year, we are going to have more fun.  Thursday June 20 we celebrate the longest day of the year, with extended market hours until 9:00 pm.  Local merchants will be offering sidewalk sales, coupons, and special sales for the evening.  Calvin the clown and Sparkles will be on hand to amaze you with slight of hand and balloon animals.  The Mad Scientists are returning for a double feature of mystical scientific experiments.  There will be face painting and live music to enjoy throughout the evening.

The Happening at the Forty kicks off with a special Farmers' market on Thursday July 25 followed by Jazz Festival on Friday and the main event on Saturday.  This Happening is a free family event that sees thousands of people wander the Main Streets of Grimsby.

A new event this year will be a Corn Roast and Peaches and (ice) cream evening.  Come to the market to enjoy a free cob of fresh, hot, sweet corn and then finish it off with some peaches and (homemade) ice cream.  What a great way to have a snack at the market that evening.

Another new event will be a pumpkin carving evening.  The kids will each be given a small pumpkin to carve with the assistance of folks from the Art Gallery.  The pumpkins will be donated by Warner Orchards and there will be prizes in all age categories.

Other planned events will be a penny sale fund raiser during the summer,  an evening with the Lincoln Leapers, regular live music and a cook off.  More details and dates as they become available.
